Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation Volunteer Trustees Include:

Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation and its founders are fortunate to receive advice from and are thankful for the volunteer efforts of the trustees, all of whom are firmly committed to curing blood cancer.

Stan Bowman is Vice President and General Manager of the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks, has joined our board of trustees.   Mr. Bowman originally joined the Blackhawks in 2001, serving for four seasons as special assistant to the general manager before being promoted to director of hockey operations, then assistant general manager of hockey operations before being appointed to his current position.  Mr. Bowman played an integral part in acquiring the talent that brought the Stanley Cup to Chicago in 2010, including the signings of Marian Hossa, Tomas Kopecky, Brian Campbell, and Patrick Sharp.  Mr. Bowman was named to Crain’s Chicago Business “40 under 40” Class of 2010.  He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1995 with degrees in finance and computer applications.  The father of two sons, Mr. Bowman was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2007 at age 33.  A treatment plan put the cancer in a brief remission, but it returned 10 months later.  Mr. Bowman was required to endure a stem-cell transplant.  Mr. Bowman is a wonderful man and we are very pleased that he will lend his commitment, strength, integrity, and vision to curing blood cancer.

Zoraida Sambolin is the co-host of Early Start airing from 4 to 6 a.m. Central on CNN.  Previously, she was Weekday Edition co-anchor of NBC5 News Today and special assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor for Telemundo Chicago.  As the first Chicago on-air broadcaster to work at both English and Spanish language stations simultaneously, she has broken new ground for Latinos in the No. 3 market in the country.  Ms. Sambolin launched Nuestra Familia on WSNS Telemundo, a weekly series on health and family life and also serves as host of Un Buen Doctor, a weekly medical series airing on cable stations worldwide.  More impressive than her Emmy award-winning broadcasting career is Ms. Sambolin?s commitment to community.  The Chicago native has had a profound impact on many important causes, but she is particularly passionate about raising awareness for autism and blood cancer.  Ms. Sambolin has been an important champion for people battling blood cancer for many years and we are pleased to have her as a Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation trustee and spokeswoman.

Gerald G. Saltarelli is a founding partner of Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd LLP a Chicago-based litigation boutique with a national reputation.  He has 30 years of experience as a trial lawyer in all aspects of commercial litigation.  Mr. Saltarelli has been involved in numerous significant trials and arbitrations and also has an active mediation practice.  Mr. Saltarelli is committed to curing cancer and Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation Trustee benefits from his sage advice.

Sergio Rojas has become one of the most demanded fitness trainers in Chicago and throughout the U.S.  Mr. Rojas does weekly fitness segments for NBC5 morning news in Chicago and has multiple national media appearances to his credit.  He has served as Strength & Conditioning Coach for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky (women’s professional basketball team) and is involved in innovative individual and corporate wellness programs.  Mr. Rojas has a long-standing commitment to public service and has been involved in causes benefiting blood cancer patients for many years.

Dougal Jeppe is a Director with Cushman & Wakefield’s Tenant Representation Group, focusing on office leasing assignments in the Chicago office market. Cushman & Wakefield is the largest privately held real estate company in the world.  Mr. Jeppe holds an MBA from Loyola University and has an impressive roster of clients in the greater Chicago area.  Mr. Jeppe lost his father to blood cancer in 2005 and is committed to supporting blood cancer research so that advances in blood cancer research will continue to help people impacted by the disease.

Robert Lane is Executive Vice President of Willis.  Mr. Lane has become a market-leading advocate for Willis’ clients in facilitating resolution of complex coverage and claims disputes.  Mr. Lane has played an integral role in facilitating resolution of many of the largest and most complex claims in the domestic and Bermuda markets, securing over $2 billion in insurance recoverables for dozens of Willis clients over the past five years.  Mr. Lane has been a frequent lecturer before a wide variety of audiences on legal and business-related issues.  Mr. Lane received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Indiana University (Bloomington) in 1988, his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the Indiana University School of Law in 1991, and a Master's Degree in Environmental Science (M.S.E.S.) from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 1992.  Mr. Lane is survivor of non-Hodgkin’s follicular lymphoma and decided to turn his personal challenge into a public opportunity to help people battling cancer.  Mr. Lane will use any available technique to raise money for cancer research, even if it means cutting of his fabulous wavy hair.

James Cunningham was diagnosed with Stage IV-B Hodgkin's Lymphoma in December 2003.  It took over two years of enduring numerous treatments and their associated complications to get his cancer into full remission.   Since the time of his diagnosis he has taken a proactive role in the fight against blood cancer.  He has participated in six walkathons to raise thousands of dollars for research.  Before his autologous bone marrow transplant in 2005, he traveled to Washington D.C. to lobby Congress for blood cancer research funding.  In addition, Mr. Cunningham has volunteered at his local cancer support center in the south suburbs.  He recently completed his bachelor degree in business at Saint Xavier University, and now works in event planning at The Executives' Club of Chicago.   He is founder  of the Rotary Club of Chicago Southland, a local community service organization.   He is passionate about cancer patient advocacy and research and is pleased to bring his energy, commitment, and perspectives as a young adult cancer survivor to the mission of eradicating blood cancer.  This October he will run the Chicago Marathon with the goal of raising $3,000 for the Chicago Blood Cancer Foundation.  Click on the link on the front page of this website to support James.
